·
It has been a quiet month. Diane Jackson motioned to approve the
budget, Eileen Cruz seconded, all in favor.
IV. PRESIDENT’S REPORT (Pam McCraw):
·
Dad’s breakfast was a huge success and
moved very smoothly. The men who
attended truly appreciated the event.
One in particular, rounded up children who were without father’s and
sponsored them!
·
Mom’s breakfast has been scheduled for
April 13 (K-2) and April 16 (3-5).
·
We received great deals through Starbucks
and Mrs. Winners. We will be sure to
mention them in our upcoming newsletter.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. Education (Diane Jackson):
·
CMT (Bethany Carter, Anna Waldrop): We are done with grants. Three items came up for discussion: 1)
Talking in hallways has increased, with offenders being mostly
adults; 2) Parents who eat lunch
with their children are not cleaning up after themselves; and 3) Volunteers haven’t been signing in. They have been seen in the hallways
without stickers. It is important
for school safety that ALL volunteers/visitors sign in at the main office.
·
Reading Incentives (Amber Dow): She is waiting for storyteller to return
her calls. He is scheduled for April
13th.
·
Teachers Representative (Kerri
Creech): Teacher’s loved Death by
Chocolate event; The Kids Art Fair made $3500. Kerri will chair the event again next
year, noting areas for improvement;
5th Grade Field trip is scheduled for April 7-9; Teacher’s need to spend their $100
allocation by March 31st;
The 3-5 grades went to the ACC Women’s Basketball tournament and
loved it, as did the teachers and parents.
Unfortunately, parents of the 3/4th grades were not
invited, causing disappointment.
·
Science Extravaganza (Scott Cross): It is scheduled for March 19th
from 8:00 – 1:00 for 3, 4 and 5th grades. The students will be creating wind
powered Puff Mobiles, consisting of straw, wooden wheels and sails. A race will be held at the event’s
end. A&T students will be on
hand to present the “science behind” the project. Scott is in need of volunteers, and a few
PTA board members offered to help.
Pizza will be ordered for the A&T students.
·
Visiting Author: Nothing new to report. Linda Vaughn will come to CMT meeting and
share further information on Thursday.
Some children are getting acquainted with the author through books
from Barnes Noble/Amazon, etc., since he is a little unfamiliar.
B. Service
(Eileen Cruz):
·
Newsletter (Sheri Bergen): Sheri is continues to look for
articles. Pam will send new deadline
to Janet to forward to PTA members.

parents will be asked to donate.
·
Web Page (Deb Bohl): Nothing new to report.
·
Yearbook (Casey Tipton): Deadline is slated for the 1st
or 2nd week in April. She
has been taking candid photos of the students. Her plan is to enhance the pages with
more pictures and clipart. The Yearbook
budget was voted on and approved for $1400.
·
Spring Carnival (Allison Bentsen): Carnival is scheduled for May 15th
from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Higher Bounce
has been booked; The ice cream man will be invited again, but we will
ensure Claxton receives more profit; We will served bagged cotton candy,
instead of making it fresh (was too messy!). Allison will contact Mrs. Feeney’s; Will
Sheri Bergen handle vendor tables again?
If not, Bethany volunteered;
Kerri Creech will email teachers asking if they would like to purchase
a vendor table; Since prizes cannot
be mounted in a trailer this year, we discussed displaying them in the
cafeteria; Prizes can be purchased
from Oriental Trading and Claxton can be invoiced. Once invoice is received, Shirley can pay
Oriental Trading directly as opposed to Allison laying out her personal
funds.

Frick): Chick-Fil-A and Papa John’s
have been doing very well.
·

Victory/Bonnie Kennedy): Sheri asked
if we wanted to continue with the 4th Tuesday of every
month. If so, she will book for next
year. The Board discussed other
options such as looking into what days would be available during the 3rd
week of the month.
·
For Kids by Kids Book Sale (Bethany
Carter): We made $643 in sales, with
only two boxes of books remaining for donation. Thanks to all volunteers!

one-time donation; a 3K and 5K for students and parents; a silent auction.
VII: OLD BUSINESS:
·
Nominating Committee (Diane
Jackson): Diane explained the need
for various openings, mainly the important role of President. Pam will write a detailed explanation of
what her duties are, as it may help someone who may be doubtful about
joining. The K-2 parents will be
approached by Jodi. We will also
post signs for open slots at Mom’ Breakfast. It was also noted that the person who
leads Book Fair should be someone who doesn’t work, thereby overseeing
progress throughout the day.
·
Open spots are: President, Secretary, Reflections,
Teacher Representative, Advocacy, Awards, Public Relations, Fall
Fundraiser, Attractions, Book Fair (lead person) and Chic-Fil-A.
